Minimum qualification for admission & duration of courses
SSLC is the minimum qualification for all paramedical courses. Students who already hold a PUC enter directly in the second year.

Note on DMRT. Medical Records Technology is the one course where lateral entry is open to PUC students from any stream, not only Science.

Examination
Examinations for paramedical courses are conducted by the Para Medical Board, which comes under the Karnataka State Nursing & Para Medical Education Regulation Authority, Bengaluru. Board examinations follow the scheme of examination drawn for each subject.
There are two examinations in a year — annual and supplementary — both conducted by the Board. Each Board examination consists of written, practical and viva components, as specified in the scheme prescribed for that course.
Regular internal assessment is conducted by the college itself, at least twice in the academic year. The Principal submits a marks list containing the average of those two assessments to the Board well before the Board theory examination begins.

Eligibility for taking the examination
The carry over system was introduced from 2017–18 under the Revised Scheme (RS-2). A candidate has 100% carry over in the first and second year of study, but must clear all balance subjects six months before the final year examination in order to sit for it.
Two numbers to remember: 50% of internal assessment marks and 75% attendance. Both are required to be eligible for the examination.
Internal assessment marks are submitted twice in the academic year — in February and in June. The better of the two is considered for the examination.
A candidate registered for the examination shall appear only at the centre assigned to the institution where the course requirement was fulfilled.

Applying for the examination
The Board considers applications only from candidates who have paid the examination and registration fee, and whose application forms have been duly certified by the Head of the institution in respect of attendance and other requirements.

Date of examination
Dates for theory and practical examinations — both annual and supplementary — are announced by the Special Officer of the Board after consulting the Chairman. The Special Officer intimates the examination timetable to Heads of Institutions at least one month before examinations commence.
Under unavoidable circumstances, the Board reserves the right to alter the dates of any examination, with prior intimation.

Examination centre
Examinations are held only at centres decided by the Board from time to time. Centres are announced before the last date for examination.

Malpractice and the MPC Committee
Any kind of malpractice in the examination is dealt with severely. Punishment ranges from debarring the candidate from writing the examination, to whatever the Malpractice Committee formed by the Board decides.

Publication of results
Results of the various paramedical courses approved by the Board are published at the Office of the Special Officer of the Board, on the Board's website, and at paramedical institutions for the information of students.
